My last two posts have taught you how to use crystals for balancing your chakras and which crystals to use. However, you need to take care of these gemstones. Today I will teach you how to clear crystals.
How To Clear Crystals
There are at least seven
Water neutralizes the negative energy stored in the stone and directs it back to the earth. It is known from ancient times. Aura cleansing, baptism, washing clothes, all of that is done by the purifying energy of water.
Rinse and stimulate your stones with water by placing them directly under natural rainfall for four to five minutes. If it’s a dry season, you can also place your stones in a colander and run water from the tap for ten minutes.
Dry with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth, or if it is a warm, sunny day, you can let the crystals dry naturally outside.
I would have two objections to this method. Firstly you cannot afford to cleanse your precious stones by dirty rainwater in the city. Secondly, ten minutes of running tap water is a waste of water and the risk of damaging crystals. The compromise would be rinsing them for one minute and then using other methods of cleansing.
A word of caution: Water does have a physical force, so be sure to only clean hard stones such as amethyst, turquoise, or quartz with this method. Otherwise, you will destroy your crystals.
Sunlight or Moonlight
The Sun will supply a newly harvested crystal with yang solar energy that balances the stone’s innate yin energy it received from the earth during its creation. After each session of balancing chakras put the crystals for direct sunlight for an hour.
Clear quartz, in particular, loves sunlight. In the warm summer months, place these crystals outside in your garden in a safe place away from children and pets. If you do not have a garden, put clear quartz pieces on a sunny window sill. This is also the best way to let them re-charge during the winter months.
Important to note: Firstly, Moonlight is
Secondly, some stones cannot put under direct and strong sunlight, like amethyst, citrine, amber or rose quartz, otherwise, they will be destroyed, staying pale. Then you can put them to the sunlight at the dawn for an hour.

If you have a garden or a pot with earth, you can use the element of the earth for cleansing. Bury your crystals underground for a full day. Let the earth soak up all the unwanted energies contained within the stones so they are cleansed and refreshed. Then do not forget to rinse the crystals properly before use.
Use fire or smoke to cleanse your stones by quickly burning or smudging them. Smude the crystals with sage sticks, palo santo, or commercial incense – sandalwood or cedar, which is known to remove negativity.
Wave your crystal over your smoke source for 20 to 30 seconds to cleanse it. At the same time, you are purifying your home.
However, I would be cautious with using direct fire, even if it is strong cleansing energy. If you do want to use direct fire, place your crystals over a candle for a few seconds. If you do not have experience, use the other method.
Salt has been used for its cleansing and negativity absorbing properties throughout the ages. A saltwater bath is one of the most common methods to cleanse your crystals
Ideally, if you have access to sea water, you can bring the stones back to nature and let them sit in the sea in a mesh bag. If you cannot use the sea water, place your crystal in a bowl of well-salted water for at least four hours, but preferably overnight. Any negative energy will be absorbed into the water, which when finished with should be washed down the sink so that the earth can absorb the negativity safely. Rinse your crystal briefly under running water and then dry with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
A word of caution. It is not always advisable to use salt water to cleanse delicate stones as the salt can damage them, e.g. hematite, pyrite.
Selenite, clear quartz and amethyst can absorb the negativity from other crystals. To cleanse your stones, lay the other crystals on selenite for at least six hours (but the longer the better). It is proved that selenite and clear quartz clusters actually amplify the energy of your other stones, having the ability to absorb, neutralize, and then recharge your stones with higher vibrations.
Yes, you can meditate your way to cleanse crystals. You can balance your own energies during meditation. Just blow balanced breath onto your stones. It is important to state an intention so you can refuel your crystal after you clean it. Practising this form of crystal cleansing regularly causes it will come naturally. And the calmness of your being will allow for true stone sterilization. However, do not forget to cleanse your aura first before cleansing the stones.
Useful tips: Make sure you practice this with relaxed and true meditation. A double effect is to do a meditation-cleanse during a full moon.
Dry Brown Rice
Use dry, uncooked, organic, brown rice. Fill a bowl large enough to accommodate your crystal(s). Gently place the crystal on top of the rice and leave for at least four hours, but preferably overnight. Any negative energy will be absorbed into the rice. When finished with cleansing, you should remember to safely dispose the rise of in a waste bin. Never cook it or eat it as you will absorb all of the cleared negativity!
